Resolutions, Slumber Parties and Reality TV

Well, it is now January 5 and I have yet to put my resolutions in writing.  So, here goes.

I've decided on a few different resolutions this year, some the same old, same old, and some new.

1.  The old stand-by, loose weight.  I am going to commit to engaging in intentional exercise at least 3 times a week.  Santa brought us a Wii with the Wii Fit included, plus I really enjoy the Zumba classes I have been attending, and of course, I will continue to turn myself into a runner.  So, hopefully I can ultimately loose a few pounds this year.

2.  Be a better mom.  Not that I am a bad mom right now.  I think I am a pretty good mom, actually.  But there is always room for improvement.  What can I do to be a better mom?  I don't know, but I'll figure it out along the way.  Maybe, instead of immediately cleaning up the house, doing laundry and cooking supper when we get home from work, I'll spend some time playing a game with the girls.  That's a start.

3.  I'm committing to two SCBWI writing conferences this year.  In June I will be attending the Illinois SCBWI Words in the Woods workshop located in Springfield, and in July/ August, a couple of friends and I are going to LA!!  I've always wanted to go to the SCBWI LA conference, and this year we are going.  I already have an envelope hiding in the back of my filing cabinet in my office labeled "LA."  As a result of committing to two conferences, I also plan on having a manuscript done by the end of the year and having it critiqued by more than my local critique group at these conferences.

OK, that's enough of resolution stuff.

When was the last time you attended a slumber party?  My oldest daughter turned 6 over the weekend and she had a slumber party.  We had 12 little girls (well, 11 girls and one boy - a cousin) come over and party all night long.  It was exhausting to say the least.  But what fun!  It brought back a lot of memories of slumber parties in my childhood.  We played games, ate ice cream and popcorn, watched movies, stayed up late (too late) and just had a good time.  Happy Birthday Paige!

One more thing I just had to mention, and gripe about for a minute.

Have you heard about the new cast for Celebrity Apprentice?

Overall, it seems to be an interesting cast makeup, including Sharon Osbourne, Cindy Lauper, Darryl Strawberry, Goldberg, the adorable Curtis Stone (he's so yummy), a comedienne, a model, Bret Michels, and some others.

The one that really bothers me is Illinois' favorite most-hated Governor, Rod Blagojevich!  WTF?!?!?!  This guy ruined the state of Illinois, allegedly committed criminal acts with his power, has horrible hair, is awaiting trial, and gets to be on TV?  WHAT?  This guy never fails to amaze me.  He's now written a book, went on some kind of whirlwind TV tour when he was being impeached, sent his wife to Costa Rica for another reality TV show, and now gets to hang out with a bunch of celebs and Donald Trump and try to raise money for charity?  I just don't get it.  Although, with his in-your-face, I don't give a crap attitude, it could make for some good board room meetings.  Still, is there really such a thing as justice in this world anymore?
