Friday Five - Five Things I Love About Fall

  • Sep. 25th, 2009 at 9:48 AM

Happy Fall to all!

In honor of the first official Friday of fall, I will dedicate my Friday Five to the things I love about fall.

1.  Baseball playoffs are just around the corner.  And my Cards just clinched their spot!

2.  Football!  Da Bears!  (OK, so maybe we won't win the Superbowl this year, but at least we won't suck as bad as the Rams!)

3.  Shopping for fall clothes.

4.  Halloween!  I am going to make my girls costumes this year, and I am SO excited.  So are they.  They are going to be Zombie's this year (thanks to the "Zombie Movie" aka Michael Jackson Thriller video that we have watched a gazillion time since June).

5.  Colors.  The world is full of color at this time of year, and I intend to enjoy it as much as possible before everything turns grey and white.

Again, Happy Fall!

I'm Torn...

We are heading to St. Louis tonight for the Cards vs. Cubs game.  Which I would normally be SUPER excited about, and I am, but...

Tonight is the finale of American Idol.  *sighs, wipes tear, hangs head*

Of course, I'll DVR it.  But we'll get home late tonight, so I can either stay up really late and watch it tonight before I read all about it on the internet tomorrow, and then be really, really tired at work tomorrow.  Or I can not watch it, get an extra hour of sleep, read all about it and try to fit it in before the results show tomorrow night.  Ummm, who needs sleep??

And speaking of the game tonight, both of my girls have declared that they will wear their Cardinal shirts to the game rather than their Cubs shirts.  Yeah, score one for mommy.  Now I just have to keep dad out of the picture until we are all dressed and ready to go, or he will swoop in and convince them to wear blue.

Go cards!!

Oh yeah, highlight's on our trip to Chicago this past weekend.

We had a blast!

The girls loved Shedd Aquarium, especially the sharks and the 4-D SpongeBob movie.  We ate at Ed Debevic's on Saturday night and the girls loved that, we all did.  The game on Sunday was cold, the Cubs lost, but we had a blast.  By the way, I'll take Busch Stadium's bathrooms any day over Wrigley's.  And we rode the train to the game, which the girls thought was more fun than the game itself!

Have a great night, watch American Idol for me and think of me about midnight tonight when I am watching.  But don't tell me what happens!!!

One more time, Go Cards!!  (We could really use a win tonight!)

Friday Five

It seems like I have a lot going on today, but probably once I get started, I'll struggle to come up with five things that would interest anyone but me.  But, here goes.

1.  We are leaving for Chicago tonight after work.  The girls are excited about staying in a hotel, and really excited because I got one of those suites.  You know, the ones with a separate living area and a kitchen.  They can't believe we will have a refrigerator and a microwave in our hotel room.  Oh, to be a kid again and be thrilled by the simplest things.

2.  Tomorrow we are going to Shedd Aquarium.  I can't wait and neither can the girls.  I pulled up the website the other night and showed the girls.  They are super excited.  We may also go to Field Museum, if we have time.  We'll see.  The only bummer about the aquarium is that the Oceanarium Reimagined is not opening up until next weekend.  Oh well, there is plenty more to see.

3.  Sunday we are going to Wrigley Field.  Yes, I know, I have made it very clear that I am a Cardinal fan, now and forever.  But, for some reason my hubby is a Cubs Fan (I'm pretty sure I would not have married him if I had known about this before I said "I do") and he is brainwashing my children into believing they are Cub fans.  So, I bought Cubs tickets, and they aren't even playing the Cards.  I guess you could say that I love my family more than I hate the Cubs.  I am looking forward to going to Wrigley though, never been.

4.  Since we don't get to see the Cardinals this weekend, I made sure we had Cards/ Cubs tickets for next weeks series at Busch Stadium.  So, I will get my Cardinal fix on Tuesday, when I will get to see them beat the Cubs, again.

5.  Hmmm....   Well, I knew I would run out of interesting things to say today.  Unless you want to hear all about the two, no make that four, grants that I am currently working that are all due within about a week of each other at the end of May and beginning of June.  Or my trials and tribulations of needing a new car and trying to figure out how to buy one and arguing with my husband about what we want.  Or my desire to move, but the mortgage industries failure to believe me when I say I'll pay my mortgage every month.  Or the fact that I have something going on every weekend until about the middle of June.  Or, well, I'll stop now.

Have a nice weekend.

Cards vs. Cubs

  • Apr. 24th, 2009 at 9:18 AM

We are heading to Busch Stadium tomorrow to see the Cardinals (referred to as "the hottest team in MLB right now" by my favorite sportscaster last night) play the Cubs.

So, here's little shout out...  GO CARDS!!

I love going to Cards/ Cubs games.  You know, it is the longest standing rivalry in MLB.  In doing research for my wip, I found out that these two teams were rivals back in the day that the Cardinals were the Browns.  Now that's a long grudge to hold.

But it makes for a fabulous day and a great game, no matter who wins (as long as the Cards win).

And it is supposed to be a BEAUTIFUL day tomorrow!

One more thing, I never really realized how many of my friends are Cubs fans until I joined Facebook.  Wow, I really need to rethink my friend screening process.

Have a great weekend.  And one more time....GO CARDS!!

Playoff Season

  • Sep. 29th, 2008 at 10:19 AM

I would like to start out by stating that I am a Die Hard Cardinal Fan.  Have been all my life.  I can remember going to Cards games with my family in St. Louis as a young girl.  I still am a Cards fan and will always be.  (By the way, we have had 10 World Series Championships since the Cubs won - I'm just saying....)

Somehow, I married a Cubs fan.  I still am not quite sure how that happened.  I don't think I knew he was a Cubs fan when I married him, or I may not have walked down the aisle that day.

Now I have two little girls, who were born to be Cardinal Fans.  The problem?  The idolize their daddy and since he is a Cubs Fan, they have decided that they are, too.  WHERE DID I GO WRONG!?!?  I'm trying really hard to hold on to at least one of them, the little one still thinks I am pretty cool.  So she will tell me that she is a Cardinal fan, just to humor me, I suppose.  They do both claim to be Cub Fans and Cardinal Fans (and Pirate Fans too, ever since we saw the Cards play the Pirates this summer, they like pirates).  So I still hold out a bit of hope!

Although I am a Cardinal Fan, I am also an underdog fan, and I love a good story.  So this October, I will put aside my differences, and join the bandwagon.  Only tempororaily, of course.  Every 100 years a miracle is bound to happen, and I can honestly say, I hope it happens to the Cubs this fall.  I am actually looking forward to seeing some great baseball in the coming weeks.  And I will join my family in cheering on the Cubs to victory.

So, ok, here I go.....   Go Cubs Go!!

I refuse to wear a Cubs shirt, still.
