I would like to start out by stating that I am a Die Hard Cardinal Fan. Have been all my life. I can remember going to Cards games with my family in St. Louis as a young girl. I still am a Cards fan and will always be. (By the way, we have had 10 World Series Championships since the Cubs won - I'm just saying....)
Somehow, I married a Cubs fan. I still am not quite sure how that happened. I don't think I knew he was a Cubs fan when I married him, or I may not have walked down the aisle that day.
Now I have two little girls, who were born to be Cardinal Fans. The problem? The idolize their daddy and since he is a Cubs Fan, they have decided that they are, too. WHERE DID I GO WRONG!?!? I'm trying really hard to hold on to at least one of them, the little one still thinks I am pretty cool. So she will tell me that she is a Cardinal fan, just to humor me, I suppose. They do both claim to be Cub Fans and Cardinal Fans (and Pirate Fans too, ever since we saw the Cards play the Pirates this summer, they like pirates). So I still hold out a bit of hope!
Although I am a Cardinal Fan, I am also an underdog fan, and I love a good story. So this October, I will put aside my differences, and join the bandwagon. Only tempororaily, of course. Every 100 years a miracle is bound to happen, and I can honestly say, I hope it happens to the Cubs this fall. I am actually looking forward to seeing some great baseball in the coming weeks. And I will join my family in cheering on the Cubs to victory.
So, ok, here I go..... Go Cubs Go!!
I refuse to wear a Cubs shirt, still.

Over the past month, my girls and I have attended three Springfield Slider's baseball games. Every time we have had a blast. I have said several times over the past month or so that I should be paid for promoting the Springfield Slider's. I think I have told everyone I know that has kids about the team and the games.
The Springfield Slider's is a Central Illinois Collegiate League team that moved into Springfield this summer. They provide great family entertainment for cheap!! I can remember as a kid going to the same stadium (formerly Lanphier Park, now Robin Roberts Memorial Stadium) to watch the Springfield Cardinals with my family. I remember always having a great time, and now i can pass the tradition on to my kids. Tickets for home games range from $4 to $6.50, but there are several promotions going on throughout the summer. My kids have joined the Kids Club, which, for $5 per kid, gets them admission into 5 different games, a t-shirt and a free hot dog at those 5 games. What a deal!! They also have Family Fun Night on Sundays, free hot dog night, $2 off admission on Mondays if you wear your cardinal gear, and $1 concession night.
Speedy the Turtle is the Slider's mascot. He roams the stadium during the game and helps with activities and contests in between innings. Speedy has helped my 4 year old conquer her fear of characters/ mascots. Thank you Speedy!! They also have a birthday party package for reasonable. My nephew will be having his birthday party there later this month, so more to come on that. We are definitely looking forward to it, and he is coming all the way from St. Louis!! And did I mention that the Slider's has a winning record, 13-3, and has earned a spot in the playoffs this year!! Way to go!! Hopefully with growing crowds and a successful season, the Slider's will be around for a long time to provide good, fun family entertainment at a reasonable cost.
