I have this sick addiction to buying books. I hear a lot of those who love to read have that same addiction, so I don't feel so bad. Plus, it's good for the economy, right??
Anyway, I have about 70+ books on my bookshelf that I have not read yet, and a good amount of them that I have read. Every time another box comes in the mail, or I walk out of a bookstore, my husband says, "Did you just buy another book?" I usually respond with, "No, I bought 3 more books." For some reason he doesn't argue with me about buying books. Clothes, shoes, purses, yes, but books, no. Whew!!!
So, you ask, what have you been reading lately??
I just finished Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I never had to read that in school, and had never thought about reading prior to a book club meeting recently. I belong to two book clubs, one of which I had been invited to attend for quite some time, but just never had. My mom (who is also a member of the book club) called me up one afternoon and told me the three books they had chosen. (I know, three!! Apparently they were overachievers that month.) The chosen books were Beautiful Boy by David Sheff, The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein and Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I figured since I had already read the first two, I would tackle the third.
It took me a long time to get through P&P. Most likely because it was so slow. It took me about 100 pages to get used to the language and figure out who everyone was was. I finally got a groove and made it through. I rated it 3 stars on Goodreads. But, I can now say that I have read, and enjoyed P&P.
I moved from P&P to Dewey: The Small Town Library Cat Who Touched the World by Vicki Myron. It is a biography of a cat. It's a much easier read, I must say. I am about 100 pages in, have already shed a few tears, and am enjoying the book. Who'da thunk it?? A biography of a cat??
I am buying books for my family for Christmas (I hope none of them read this). I have a list of people I need to buy for and am getting ready to head to the bookstore for some power shopping. I had thought, for only a minute, that I could just grab some books off my bookshelf and give those out, they are almost all brand new and never been read. But then, THOSE ARE MY BOOKS!! I can't give MY books away!! What will I read then?? Instead, I have about 12 people to buy for. I am on the hunt for books for all ages and all genres.
This should be a fun shopping trip!!! (sing songy..."I get to go buy books,,, I get to go buy books...) :)
Any suggestions???
