First things first. Since this is my first post of 2009, Happy New Year!!
My resolutions for 2009:
1. Recycle more and teach the kids about recycling. My (now) 5 year old asked me the other day as we were putting away Christmas presents, while holding up a piece of plastic used to package some new toy, "Mom, can we recycle this?" She overheard me telling my husband that I was going to recycle more and teach the girls about it. She will keep me on track for this goal.
2. Clean out my back room to return it to usable space. I have a huge back room that has been several things over the years. Today, it is our junk room. Anything that does not have a place in any other part of the house, lives in the back room. There are boxes, a year or so worth of mail, old toys, decorations for every holiday, stuff that should be in the garage, but only made it as far as the back room, the ab lounger that I was for sure I would use all the time, my bookshelf, my desk, my home office. You get the picture. Soon, I will be able to walk through the room again without shoes on, and even sit at my desk and post to LJ!
3. Move. I want to move back to my hometown of Auburn before the new school year begins. My big one will be in Kindergarten in the fall. I want her to go to a small town school, one that provides a good education. And it is a bonus that grandma works there, so she can take the girls to school every day!
4. Write more. I didn't write much last year, partly because I started a new full time job and have been writing a lot of grants. PArtly because I don't have a computer at home. But by the end of next week, I will be the proud owner of a brand new Studio Hybrid Ruby Red Dell Computer, custom built to my liking!!! Once I get my home office cleaned out and my computer set up, I will be a writing maniac!!!
5. Loose weight. Of course, isn't this standard? I started working out regularly a couple of months ago, but slacked off the past 2 weeks due to the holidays. It's time to get back in gear. My goal - loose 30 pounds by summer.
And I mentioned a cool movie in the title of this post.
I don't watch too many movies. Not because I don't like to. But mostly because by the times the kids go to bed, and I can watch a movie, I am nearly asleep on the couch, I am reading, or I just plain am too lazy to get up off the couch and put in a movie. Plus, I am horrible about renting movies and returning them on time. I think I pay more in overdue fees than rental fees. (I know, I know, there are solutions to that. Refer back to the lazy statement just prior to this statement!!)
Yesterday my 5 year old convinced me to stop at the video store and rent some movies. She got a few, and I got 2. Last night I watched "Burn After Reading." It is a Coen brothers movie, so I knew it would be funny, weird, quirky, etc. I love the Coen Brothers, one of my favorite movies is "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" Plus it had George and Brad, I can't pass up a movie with both of my favorite guys in it.
It was everything I expected. It was funny, quirky, off the wall, it kept me awake well past my usual fall asleep on the couch time. I am glad I watched it. It's a bit confusing to explain, but it was something like this: Chad (Brad Pitt) and Linda are gym employees that find what they think is classified CIA information. Osbourne (John Malcovich) and his wife are getting a divorce. The info in supposed to be about Osbourne, a former CIA agent. Harry (George Clooney) thinks he's being followed by the CIA (or some other agency). Chad and Linda are trying to get someone to give them money for the "highly classified CIA information" and even go so far as to try to sell it to the Russian Embassy. I know, confusing. There's a lot more, but not enough time or space to tell it all. Plus I don't want to ruin it for you. All the characters are tied in together at some point, mostly by having affairs with each other. But you have to watch the movie. It is great. It has some harsh language, but it seems to go along with the characters. I highly recommend this movie, especially if you are a Coen Brothers fan.
Anyway, long post, I need to go now.
Happy New Year to all!!!
